I remember loving those old Wendy’s commercials with those three old ladies.
The commercial was cute back then with the “Where’s the beef” line over and over. Want to know what’s NOT funny. The “Where’s the ring?” question. As word started getting around that Mr. B and I were planning a wedding people wanted to see the ring. I think one Sunday at church I had no less that a dozen people ask me if Mr. B had proposed yet. I started to feel like a broke record saying the same thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!
I was (sort of) content waiting. He had already told me that he planned to marry me, but he also felt like this was a big commitment and he wanted to ask me on his own schedule. Not when I expected him to, or when our friends did. Come the end of January though my mom had jumped on the “Where’s the ring” bandwagon. I felt bad. I didn’t think my mom would join in with the chanting. I tried my best to reassure her, but it didn’t really work. A couple days later Mr. B was over at my parent’s helping with the yard and so that night I asked if my mom had said anything to him. He kind of laughed and brushed me off “Why would your mom say anything to me?” I dropped it. I figured that I really had settled my mom’s mind and that she was gonna be patient. Especially since she started getting more involved in the wedding plans. Then things got weird.
During the week before Valentine’s Day Mr. B and I were discussing our plans. He was going to have to work on V-Day and the kids would be gone for the weekend visiting their Dad. I asked him to just make the plans for Friday night. He never makes plans and so I told him it would mean a lot to me if he would plan our dinner plans. Then out of the blue he started talking about our 2 year anniversary. We had our first date on February 24, 2007, which is what we basically had decided was our anniversary date. It was very unlike him, but he told me we had plans for that day. He was very mysterious about the whole thing. He wouldn’t tell me what we were doing, where we were going, or even who was watching the kids. I started to have my suspicions but I tried not to let him know. As the 24th got closer I told a few friends about how he was acting, and told them I thought it might actually be the night he asks. We all joked and laughed, and I tried not to get my hopes up … until that day.
